PHILADELPHIA, MARCH 20, 2008: State Sen. Mike Stack (D-Philadelphia) today announced major state funding for the Glen Foerd on the Delaware Preservation Project during a news conference today at the historic site.
“Not only is Glen Foerd a tribute to a past era, but it’s also a haven for the entire community to explore and celebrate special events,” Stack said. “That’s why we must take care to preserve this gem for generations to come.”
The $100,000 grant, presented to the Glen Foerd board of directors, will be used toward repairing the roof, protecting the structural integrity of the house, protecting valuable artwork, improving the drainage system, and protecting the historical value of Glen Foerd.
“Glen Foerd is a jewel among the many historic treasures in the Northeast. The mansion is a tribute to the history of our community, and the grounds offer a tranquil escape from the hustle and bustle of State Road and Grant Avenue,” Stack said. “I’m pleased that I could present this funding, and I thank the Glen Foerd executive board for taking the steps to ensure that we can all continue to enjoy Glen Foerd.”
“The efforts by Senator Stack are greatly appreciated by the staff and board at Glen Foerd,” said Patrick Hotard, the Glen Foerd on the Delaware executive director. “We are lucky to have such an effective and dedicated public servant representing Torresdale in the State Senate.”
The cost of the entire preservation project is $680,000.
