| PHILADELPHIA, JAN. 18, 2008: State Sen. Mike Stack on Thursday joined middle school students at Hamilton Disston School in the Tacony community of Northeast Philadelphia to get a “heads-up” on the dangers of drugs.
Officers from the Philadelphia Police Department Narcotics Bureau presented to the youngsters their Heads-Up (Heroin Education And Dangerous Substance Understanding) Program, a no holds barred outlook on the true damage and destruction of drug use on people of all ages.
“The Heads-Up program is an eye-opening presentation that shows children the devastating effects of drugs on the abuser, as well as their loved ones,” Stack said. “I applaud the police department for creating an effective anti-crime, anti-drug tool that takes a proactive approach toward steering youngsters away from drugs.”
With the help of recovering addicts and family members who have lost loved ones to drug use, the program educates children and families about the dangers of drugs by showing them what will happen to people who use illegal substances.
The Philadelphia Heads-Up program has been watched by over 400,000 people at over 2,600 different sites in and around the city, according to the police department.
