PHILADELPHIA, FEB. 2, 2007:
A Northeast Philadelphia dry-cleaning businesses has been awarded a
state grant to upgrade to more environmentally friendly equipment,
according to state Sen. Mike Stack.
Betty Brite Cleaners, located at 3802 Morrell Ave., will use the
Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection grant to
purchase and install upgraded dry-cleaning equipment to reduce
hazardous waste generation and the use of perchloroethylene, which
is the main solvent used in the dry-cleaning process.
“Pennsylvania is working hard to improve our environment,” Stack
said. “By providing grants like this one to businesses like Betty Brite Cleaners, we are encouraging small businesses to reduce
pollutants.”
The Small Business Advantage Grant
Program provides a 50 percent matching grant of up to $7,500 to
encourage the implementation of equipment or processes to reduce
energy consumption and pollution prevention while helping to
increase profitability for small businesses.
“All
Pennsylvania small businesses are eligible for this funding,” Stack
said. “Although the program is now closed for this year, it may
re-open this summer, depending on the passage of the new state
budget in June. I encourage those who are interested to check the
Department of Environmental Protection Web site,
www.dep.state.pa.us in the coming months for updates.”
An eligible
applicant must be a for-profit business enterprise that is a
corporation, limited liability company, partnership, sole
proprietorship or other legal business entity that has no more than
100 full-time or full-time equivalent employees and is a separate
