STACK URGES CONSUMERS TO RE-REGISTER FOR DO-NOT-CALL LIST

PHILADELPHIA – State Sen. Mike Stack today reminded individuals who signed up for the state’s Do Not Call list in 2002 to renew their registration.

“This new law is extremely popular in Pennsylvania. Millions of consumers have signed up for the Do Not Call list,” Stack said. “I urge the consumers who signed up in 2002 to take the simple steps to re-register.”

The Pennsylvania Do Not Call law, which was passed in 2002 to give telephone subscribers the opportunity to avoid unwanted telemarketing calls, provides valid registration for only five years from the date of initial registration.

Individuals who registered in 2002 must re-register by Sept. 15, or their number will be dropped from the Do Not Call registry on Nov. 1.

One million Pennsylvanians registered for the Do Not Call list during the first two weeks after the law was enacted. Over the last five years, millions more have registered.

To re-register up to seven residential and cellular numbers per person, visit the attorney general’s Web site www.attorneygeneral.gov; call 1-888-777-3406; or mail a name, mailing address, phone number and signature to the PA Attorney General’s Office, Bureau of Consumer Protection, Strawberry Square, 15th Floor, Harrisburg, PA 17120.

Consumers can re-register for another five years if they do not remember when they signed up. The Web site also allows people to verify when they first registered for the list.
