PHILADELPHIA, APRIL 18, 2007: Motorists who
travel the intersection of Frankford Avenue and Academy Road and the
Academy Road exit to Interstate 95 will soon see an improved ride,
according to state Sen. Mike Stack and state Rep. Mike McGeehan.
“This intersection endures a tremendous amount of traffic volume,
especially during rush hour,” Stack said. “Representative McGeehan
and I believe it is necessary to address two critical traffic issues
there.”
The first project will match up the transit turning lanes from the
I-95 Academy Road exit ramp to Academy Road as vehicles cross
Frankford Avenue.
The second project will involve adjusting the timing of the light
during peak traffic hours from 80 seconds to 90 seconds to provide
more time for vehicles to make the turn onto Academy Road. This
change will be made in conjunction with the City Streets Department.
McGeehan added that another announcement would be made when the
changes take place.
Both legislators met with the Pennsylvania Department of
Transportation to make these improvements possible.
“We were glad that we could make these improvements for our
constituents”, said McGeehan. “Safe roads are a key component of
good communities. Senator Stack and I are dedicated to making sure
our constituents have access to safe roads”.
“Working together with PennDOT, we are confident that
these changes will benefit drivers, residents and the entire
community who live, work and shop in this area,” McGeehan said.
“These are positive adjustments that will help our constituents”,
Stack said. “We look forward to working with PennDOT on future
traffic issues”.
