HARRISBURG, April 19, 2006 - State Sen. Michael Stack today
introduced a resolution proclaiming April 23 through 30 as “Days of
Remembrance of Victims of the Holocaust” in Pennsylvania.
“April 25th is known to Jews around the world as Yom Hashoah -
Holocaust Remembrance Day,” said Stack (D-Philadelphia). “In Europe,
thousands of Israeli students will hold a memorial service at
Auschwitz called ‘The March of the Living.’ In Israel, air-raid
sirens will sound and businesses will close. The whole country will
come to a standstill.
“However, April 25th is not just a day for Jews to remember the
Holocaust. It is for everyone, no matter your religious or ethnic
background.”
Stack will join Gov. Ed Rendell and other elected officials at the
Pennsylvania Jewish Coalition’s annual Holocaust Civic Commemoration
at the state Capitol on April 25.
