The service honored four officers — Deputy Sheriff Kyle Pagerly from the Berks County Sheriff’s Department, Officer Robert Lasso of the Freemansburg Borough Police Department, Officer Derek Kotecki of the City of Lower Burrell Police Department, and Officer John David Dryer of the East Washington Borough Police Department — who were killed in the line of duty in 2011.

“When an officer lays down his life, it’s a sacrifice upon the altar of liberty,” said Gov. Tom Corbett.

State Sen. Mike Stack and Rep. Randy Vulakovich presented Senate and House memorial resolutions, and Sens. Jay Costa, Judy Schwank, Tim Solobay, and Joe Scarnati attended the ceremony.

“The fact that men and women are willing to sacrifice their lives is something we can draw inspiration from,” said Stack.

The FOP and the governor presented Medals of Ultimate Sacrifice to the fallen officers’ families. Family members placed flowers on a memorial marker and the Philadelphia Police Department gave a rifle salute. This is the 19th year for this annual ceremony.
