Stack: Public Hearing Will Discuss PGW Rate Increase Proposal
PHILADELPHIA, MARCH 24, 2010 — State Sen. Mike Stack announced today that the Public Utility Commission will hold a public hearing in Northeast Philadelphia on the proposal by the Philadelphia Gas Works (PGW) to increase the level of rates that it charges for providing natural gas distribution service to its customers.
The public is welcome to attend the hearing on Wednesday, April 7 at 7 p.m. in the auditorium at George Washington High School, 10175 Bustleton Ave.
“Customers deserve to understand why PGW wants to raise their rates and how it could impact them,” Stack said. “I encourage residents to attend this meeting and offer your thoughts on the proposal.”
PGW officials claim the rate increase is needed to invest its energy conservation plan, which PGW says will ultimately keep costs down for customers. If the proposal is approved, residential customers would see an $8.50 increase in their monthly gas bill, according to PGW.
Customers who are interested in testifying are encouraged to arrive 10 to 15 minutes early, sign up to testify prior to the meeting, bring a prepared statement and be prepared to answer questions from the panel.
