Stack Announces Solar Grant for Tioga Marine Terminal
HARRISBURG, JULY 12, 2010— State Sen. Mike Stack today announced that Philadelphia Port TMT Solar, LLC, will receive $1.2 million in state funding for a solar energy project at the Tioga Marine Terminal.
The grant, part of the Commonwealth Financing Authority’s Solar Energy Program, will be used to purchase and install a 1.3 MW solar photovoltaic (PV) system on the rooftop of the Tioga Marine Terminal warehouse facility leased by Delaware River Stevedores.
“The Tioga Marine Terminal is an extremely busy port that regularly imports and exports valuable goods, so providing solar energy at the warehouse will be important for improving and reducing energy use,” Stack said. “I’m pleased that this funding will promote clean energy at such a bustling hub of economic activity.”
Philadelphia Port TMT Solar, LLC will own the PV system and sell the power to Delaware River Stevedoresunder a power-purchase agreement. The system will provide over 35 percent of the electricity demand at the warehouse.
Pennsylvania’s Solar Energy Program is administered jointly by the Department of Community and Economic Development and the Department of Environmental Protection.
