FOP Honors Stack for Dedicated Support of Police Officers

PHILADELPHIA, JAN. 28, 2010 — State Sen. Mike Stack today was honored by the Fraternal Order of Police, Lodge No. 5 in Philadelphia, for his “dedicated support for law enforcement officers in Philadelphia and throughout the Commonwealth.”

“I’m honored to receive this recognition and I will continue to push for better laws that protect the police officers who put their lives on the line every day for our safety,” Stack said.

Stack has consistently supported the Roosevelt Boulevard Accident Reduction Initiative, which provides state funding to the Philadelphia Police Department for increased traffic enforcement along the boulevard. He also fought to keep police officers on the street through legislation in 2009 that allowed the City of Philadelphia to take other financial measures in order to avoid massive layoffs of city workers, including emergency responders. Stack’s measure that provides for a 20-year mandatory minimum sentence to individuals who intentionally fire upon an on-duty police officer was signed into law in 2008.

Stack is also a founding member of the new Law Enforcement Officers Caucus, which focuses on the health and safety of law enforcement officers in Pennsylvania.
