Sen. Stack Recognizes 'Catholic Schools Week' in Pennsylvania

HARRISBURG, JAN. 27, 2010 — The Pennsylvania Senate today unanimously approved state Sen. Mike Stack’s resolution declaring the week of Jan. 30 to Feb. 6 as “Catholic Schools Week” in Pennsylvania.

“Catholic Schools Week is a great annual tradition that celebrates quality education,” said Stack, a graduate of St. Christopher’s parish elementary school and LaSalle College High School. “Catholic schools instill a strong foundation of faith-based values, self-esteem, self-confidence and leadership skills.”

More than 161,000 Catholic elementary and high school students across the state will be celebrating “Catholic Schools Week” with activities and service projects geared toward this year’s theme “Dividends for Life.”

“Catholic school students save Pennsylvania taxpayers $1 billion each year,” Stack said. “In addition, these students are making great academic achievements. Catholic schools have a dropout rate of less than 3 percent and a postgraduate higher education rate of 85 percent. These students should be proud of themselves and the credit goes to their families and teachers for instilling the importance of Catholic education.”
