Stack: Local Families Receive EITC Scholarships

PHILADELPHIA, MAY 15, 2009 — State Sen. Mike Stack this week joined Aetna Insurance and the Bravo Foundation in presenting $20,000 in scholarships to Northeast Philadelphia families.

Ten local schools each received $2,000 in Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) scholarships, which were administered by Aetna and the Bravo Foundation.

Families from Christ the King, Our Lady of Calvary, Resurrection of Our Lord, St. Anselm, St. Christopher, St. Dominic and Our Lady of Port Richmond grade schools and the pre-K programs at Bridesburg Boys and Girls Club, Bustleton United Methodist Church Child Care and St. Jerome Child Care were all presented with the funding at a ceremony at Bridesburg Boys and Girls Club.

“These are all fine schools that are providing our children with the tools they need to succeed,” Stack said. “The pre-school programs are setting our children up for a lifetime of learning and the grade schools are instilling in their students a solid education.”

“I want to congratulate the families who are receiving these beneficial scholarships and I want to thank Aetna and the Bravo Foundation for investing in Northeast Philadelphia children and their families,” he said.
