Sen. Stack was elected to his third term in the state Senate in November 2008. His district includes Northeast Philadelphia, Port Richmond, Bridesburg and Kensington. He has been a relentless advocate for senior citizens, education, health care and jobs.
Sen. Stack serves as a Captain in the Armed Forces in the Pennsylvania National Guard. He graduated from the Officers Basic Course competing with soldiers twenty years his junior.
He serves in Democratic Leadership as Democratic Vice Chair of the Appropriations Committee and Democratic Chair of the Banking and Insurance Committee.
A leading advocate for seniors, education and health care, he has also been a strong voice for economic sanctions against Iran and Sudan.
He earned his law degree from Villanova University Law School in 1992. He is a graduate of LaSalle College High School and of LaSalle University.
During the Administration of Gov. Robert P. Casey, Sen. Stack was Executive Deputy Director of the Pennsylvania Medical Professional Liability Catastrophic Loss Fund.
Sen. Stack comes from a family committed to public service. His grandfather, an immigrant, became a U.S. Congressman and co-sponsored the first minimum wage and Social Security bills.
Senator Stack is a Fellow of The University of Pennsylvania Leadership Academy of the Fels Institute of Government. He serves on the Board of Trustees of Temple University, the Board of Trustees of the Holocaust Awareness Museum, the Board of Trustees of the Philadelphia Flag Day Association, and the Board of Directors of Self-Help Movement Inc. He is also a member of the Chilean & American Chamber of Commerce of Greater Philadelphia, Brian Boru Division 6 Chapter of the Ancient Order of Hibernians, Saint Katharine Drexel Knights of Columbus, and Shaare Shamayim Men's Club. Sen. Stack is a member of the Somerton Civic Association and Friends of Pennypack Park. He serves on the Executive Board of the Brehon Law Society and is a member of the Democratic State Committee. He is admitted to the Maryland and Pennsylvania Bar Associations.
Sen. Stack is married to the former Tonya Whitmore.
